John Mulaney's ex-wife is Anna Marie Tendler. The couple's divorce was finalized several weeks ago and Tendler did not issue any public statements to celebrate it. During the entire drama surrounding her divorce, she only made one statement: it was a statement about being "heartbroken" after Mulaney revealed that he was filing for divorcement. Anna Marie is able to speak for herself. She isn't going to be the scorned exwife. She is a talented artist who has made art to get over her heartbreak. She designs and sews, has a master's degree in costume studies, and is an accomplished photographer and multimedia artist. Harper's Bazaar has featured her in its latest issue. She's basically okay, all things considered.

She lives in a haunted dollhouse in woods and makes art. Tendler has spent the last year decorating a 19-century stone house in Connecticut, about an hour outside of New York City. These haunting photos, which Tendler recently posted on Instagram, are stylized and intricately composed self-portraits as well as interiors. They sold quickly at a Brooklyn art market, fetching prices in mid-six figures. Tendler tells us about her childhood dream of living in a haunted dollhouse as we stroll through high-ceilinged galleries filled with antique furniture, rich William Morris wallpapers and ornate light fixtures. Tendler is the haunted doll in her photos.

The fan painting of Petunia is still in her possession. "This is just Petunia's painting that John's fan painted and then gave it to John at a show." As we pause, the oil portrait sits unframed. This is a striking portrait of the dog with 151,000 Instagram followers. Petunia follows us closely as we tour the house and wheezes as French bulldogs do. "He doesn’t want it?" I ask. "I don’t believe so."

She loves living in the woods: "I miss my friends, but I am aware that it's a bit too young for me to be living in a middle of the woods all by myself," she admits. She isn't trying to "become Grey Gardens" but she's in love with her surroundings deeply. "I was able create the space that I, as a child, always wanted to live."

When she was asked about her divorce, she replied: "Everything has happened has been totally surprising and I find it surreal. It can only go up from there, because I have reached the depths of what I could do.

She said that 2021 was difficult for her. "I had many bad days and some medium days." "I wouldn't say that I had any good moments until the summer," she said. She tried to make every day an artistic one, no matter how small. I feel so fortunate that so much my work is mundane, detail-oriented and handwork. I work with thread and needles. It's almost like I have to be there. .... You can have your entire life fall apart, then learn a hand skill!

Her photography exhibition/sale was a great success. What if the next project I do doesn't resonate as much with people as this one?

She didn't have money as a child. I don't want to have wasted that. I want to make use of the skills I learned from that time and figure out my future. Because I know that many people don't get it.

If she wants children now, she said that she has always valued partnership over having kids. But, she also stated that she will definitely freeze her eggs.

She ends her story on a happy note. It's as if she's over the worst of her pain and is moving on with her life in her haunted dollhouse. Mulaney, who is now based in Los Angeles, sold the New York apartment. What happens if your husband cheats on or relapses? It doesn't matter if she goes a little crazy for a while. I would too.
