Lily Rose Depp: "I'm very careful now about the conversations I have"

Lily Rose Depp was on the cover last year of Elle Magazine. Her cover interview was terrible. She made some tone-deaf remarks about her nepo baby and how no one cares that she is privileged and has everything on a plate. The situation was so bad, that models and other fashion industry types were quick to criticize Lily-Rose's nepo-baby status. Lily Rose was featured in a recent I-D issue, mainly to promote The Idol, her HBO show. She has a number of projects coming this year and is still (cough, cough) a Chanel ambassador. She addressed her status as a nepotism baby once more. Highlights:

I've always dreamed of playing a pop star. You can't give an actress more than this role. It's the most important and meaningful project I've done and I am proudest of it. I don't even know where to start. Jocelyn has the most complex and fascinating character. She is so captivating. A mystery. After living with this character for a year, I am still obsessed. "I just want to dig deeper."

Growing up in Paris and LA: "My Parents are artists. I was always encouraged to explore what I wanted to explore." Since I was a young girl, I have always enjoyed putting on shows. I used to dance and dress up."

Kevin Smith was shooting a horror film, Tusk. It starred Johnny Depp. Lily-Rose, who was working on a movie set at the time, was told to just jump in a scene. This was enough to spark her interest in acting. "I had a lot of fun on that day, despite the fact that I didn't know what I was doing. "I still feel at times like I don't know what I am doing."

Working with Chanel. At 15, she jumped into the spotlight by taking on the role of global ambassador at Chanel. Her mum had been working with Chanel since the 1990s. She recalls that she met Karl Lagerfeld for the first time with her mother when she was eight years old. "He was almost childlike." He wore sunglasses all the time and had that classic look. When you looked at him, his eyes had a beautiful purity. "He was the best person to have at dinner."

She fights Imposter Syndrome. "You just need to jump in, and have faith that if I was chosen, it's for a good reason." You can only do that. In the same vein, I believe that nothing is more exciting than to be like, "Wow, you're so nervous." This is a challenge. What on earth will I do? This is the best fuel for you to want to work hard. "I don't want this to go wrong, so I'll work as hard as possible to ensure that I've left no stone unturned." If you are not afraid, what is the point? "I like a little fear."

I'm very careful now about the conversation. I think my parents gave me the best childhood they could. It was still not a typical childhood. I am very aware that my childhood was not like everyone else's. It's also all I know so I had to find some comfort in it. "I'm lucky to have been surrounded by normal people and real people. I believe that is the only way I can exist in this world without going insane."

[From I-D Magazine]

"Obviously, it was still not a typical childhood ..." No one is saying Lily-Rose is a slob because her parents introduced to her artists, designers, and directors when she was a child. She doesn't realize how lucky she is, and how her parents' connections have given her every job since she was 14. It's understandable that these nepo babies don't want to admit that they've lived a great life. They've been given everything, and it's incredible. But, because they're unaware of it, they can't. I find it hilarious that she also has imposter syndrome. You have imposter's syndrome, and for good reason.
