Over the weekend, the Mail on Sunday had a complicated story about all of the drama going around Prince Charles’ charitable foundation, the same foundation which has been a key player in several sordid cash-for-access and cash-for-honours scandals, many of which were outed in the British press in recent months. The MoS article is basically a confirmation that Charles’ long-time aide Michael Fawcett will be falling on his sword thoroughly for his boss. Charles and his foundation are going to play dumb and act like Fawcett was organizing all of these access & honours schemes without anyone’s knowledge. If you believe that, well, I will sell you London Bridge for a great price.
Ahead of the November climate conference in Glasgow, Prince Charles has given an exclusive interview to the BBC, all about the environment and climate change. The BBC understands the limited access they’re receiving, so there are no questions about Fawcett, or Prince Andrew, or the Sussexes or royal racism. Instead, Charles talked to the BBC about his cheese car. *adjusts glasses* I mean, his car which runs on cheese for fuel. Some quotes from Charles’ interview:
On climate activists like XR, Insulate Britain and Greta Thunberg: ‘All these young people feel nothing is ever happening so of course they’re going to get frustrated. I totally understand because nobody would listen and they see their future being totally destroyed. The point is, people should really notice how despairing so many young are.
On his cheese and wine powered Aston Martin: ‘That runs now on waste products. It runs on, can you believe this, surplus English white wine and whey from the cheese process.’
On his diet: ‘I haven’t eaten meat and fish on two days a week and I don’t eat dairy products on one day a week. If more did that, you would reduce a lot of the pressure.’
On world leaders: ‘It’s just talk. The problem is trying to get action on the ground which I’ve been trying to do for the last 40 years.’
On the UK government doing enough to tackle climate change: ‘I couldn’t possibly comment.’
On being called an idiot: ‘If you’re the idiot who suggests all this, you’re accused of being an idiot. I was accused of being anti-science. It wasn’t much fun, as you can imagine, and then because I suggested there were better ways of doing things, I was accused of interfering and meddling. Having been ridiculed for so long, they suddenly all want me to help convene them. Because I haven’t got an axe to grind I’m only keen to get the damn thing sorted.’
[From The Daily Mail]
First, I would honestly like to know more about his cheese car! I know that’s not cool to admit that, but seriously, his Aston Martin runs on whey?? As for the rest of it… it’s a small confirmation to me that Charles was the one who was scheduled to appear at the Glasgow climate conference and his son and daughter-in-law are simply tagging along. I also think Charles is miffed because William is copykeening an issue Charles has worked on for most of his adult life.
Also: I kind of like that he’s promoting-by-example some simple changes people can make, like going vegetarian two days a week, or avoiding dairy for a day or two every week.
