What did Jimmy Kimmel do hosting the 2023 Oscars? Was it terrible or ...??

While there were many Oscar highlights, let's face it, there were also many Oscar lowlights. This included the delivery and nature of the telecast. Some believe that Will Smith's slap on Chris Rock last year was the end for the Oscars. The Oscars had to be more traditional and conservative this year. Jimmy Kimmel was hired as the host, giving him the freedom to make jokes at Will Smith's expense. Here is his opening monologue.

We want you to feel safe. And, most importantly, we want to feel safe. So, we have policies. You will be given the Oscar for Best Actor if you commit any act of violence in the theater. Yes, but the Academy has a crisis management team. You can do the same thing last year, and just do nothing if anything unexpected or violent happens during ceremony. Do nothing, just sit there. You might even offer a hug to your assailant. It's not easy ..." to get angry at a joke.

He lost me completely, like that. Criticizing the audience last year for... not panicking when the slap occurred? Many people, including Denzel Washington, Tyler Perry and Bradley Cooper, took it upon them to handle the crisis and talk to Will to calm them down. Kimmel didn't know what was going to happen. Did Kimmel have to confront Will after he received his Oscar? Kimmel is only salty because he saw Rock get slapped by him and thought, "What if that happened TO ME?" The Academy learned a lesson: "Snub the f*ck out of Black entertainers, make the joke."

Kimmel's "bits," however, kept going flat. This was usually because he wanted to waste time and engage in uncomfortably funny patter after an artist of color was removed from the microphone. They were trying to express their gratitude to their mothers. The Malala Yousafzai bit was awful, as was all the stuff in the audience.

He also brought Jenny, the donkey from Banshees, out of hiding. Are we allowed to have live animals at Oscars?
