Will you watch the trailer for Sofia Coppola’s Priscilla Presley film?

See this post on Instagram Priscilla shared a post on Twitter (@priscillamovie).

Recently, biopics have been released in pairs. I noticed that both Tom Holland and Jamie Bell have Fred Astaire films in production. The Old Hollywood nerd inside me says both are bad ideas, but I'm more confident in Jamie. Sofia Coppola, who directed Baz Lurhmann’s Elvis, is now releasing a biopic on Priscilla, Elvis' wife. I remember reading about it, but I can't recall when it was released. The trailer for Sofia's film, simply Priscilla has just been released, and I must admit, I am intrigued. Jacob Elordi, from Euphoria, plays Elvis and Cailee spaeny is Priscilla. Details about the film:

Official synopsis of Priscilla: "When teenager Priscilla meets Elvis Presley, he becomes something entirely unexpected when they are alone: a thrilling lover, an ally to those who feel lonely, a vulnerable friend." This is the synopsis from A24. Sofia Coppola tells Priscilla’s story of the untold side of a great American legend in Elvis and Priscilla’s turbulent marriage and long courtship, from a German military base to Graceland. This deeply felt and ravishingly described portrait of love fantasy and fame is a deeply felt and ravishingly accurate portrayal of love.

Jacob Elordi's word salad on Old Hollywood actors. "I was like, damn, Elvis Presley wished to be James Dean. He wanted to be Marlon brando. I researched nearly every actor of that era, and I mistook [Elvis] for an entertainer or singer. Then he became an actor. Elordi said at the time, "I guess, in a sense, I am trying to learn from them." He added, "I don't know anyone who has been through this experience, so these people are like guiding lights."

Sofia's film will be very different from Elvis. "I loved the collage-like way Baz told his story, but now that I have more time to dive into Priscilla’s story I am glad it did not go too deep. Coppola said that Baz's take on the story was very creative. "Priscilla was such a minor role in that film. I never felt as though I was treading the same ground. I'm glad people loved his film on Elvis. In a few more years, there will be another movie about Priscilla. "I think it will be interesting to see two different interpretations of events and times in the same period", she said.

Jacob Elordi's Elvis-like performance will be tested, especially in light of Austin Butler's recent career-defining turn. I do have my doubts. Jacob's comparison of himself to James Dean, Marlon Brando and Elvis, even in an indirect way, does not bode well for his ego. These three men have left a lasting mark on American culture, and they are among the most influential performers in the 20th century. Jacob is, to me, just an Australian with a prominent Adam's Apple. He is as charismatic as room temperature oatmeal. Maybe I'm being too harsh on him because I haven't seen Euphoria.

Priscilla met Elvis when she was still underage. She was 14 and he was a 24-year-old man who was incredibly famous. This is enough for many people to avoid watching this film, and I can understand why. Sofia Coppola has always been a great artist at capturing female alienation. Roger Ebert said something in a movie review of Sofia Coppola's Marie Antoinette which I have always remembered. Marie Antoinette, to him, was about the loneliness of being a woman in a world who knows how to take advantage of you, but does not know how to appreciate and understand you. To me, Marie Antoinette (which is controversial, I realize) is a masterpiece. According to the 45 second trailer, I believe Sofia will approach Priscilla in a similar way. We will be able to see the entire story through Priscilla’s eyes, which includes the power imbalance that exists between her and Elvis. I think it will be good.
