Gwyneth Paltrow was allegedly involved in a ski accident in Park City (Utah) in 2016. It was either Paltrow colliding with Terry Sanderson, a senior optometrist, or Sanderson colliding into Paltrow, according to her version. Although both sides acknowledge that there was a crash, there is disagreement over who caused it and whether Sanderson checked on Sanderson while he lay in the snow with broken bones. Sanderson sued Paltrow in 2019. The case was finally brought to trial this week. She didn't want to settle out of court, I suppose. Because we hadn't heard anything about it in years, I assumed that this was what had happened. It's happening right now, but it's not. These photos are from Tuesday's first day of an eight-day civil trial.
Terry Sanderson, a retired optometrist aged 76, sued Paltrow. He claimed that Paltrow crashed into him on Park City's beginner's slopes in Utah in February 2016. (Park City hosts the Sundance Film Festival, which is an annual celebrity-packed event.
Paltrow, aged 50, claimed that he was recklessly going down the slopes. This resulted in a collision that left Paltrow injured and lying on the ground. According to the Associated Press, Paltrow skied off while he was treated for a concussion, broken ribs and went to the emergency department. Sanderson sued initially for $3 million. Then, he dropped it to $300,000.
According to AP, Sanderson's lawyers argued Tuesday that the incident caused him emotional distress and physical injuries.
Craig Ramon, Sanderson's ski buddy and friend, testified Tuesday. He stated that he was near the scene of the accident seven year ago when Paltrow struck Sanderson, causing Sanderson face-first to fall, according to AP.
Paltrow also agrees that they collided seven years ago on a ski track. Her attorneys claimed that Sanderson was at fault for the accident and that Sanderson crashed into Paltrow. Her attorneys said that Sanderson was fine and that members of Paltrow’s group checked on him. According to AP, Sanderson claimed that he doesn't remember.
Paltrow counterclaimed, seeking $1 in damages and attorneys fees. According to AP, she claimed Sanderson was responsible for the collision and exaggerated his injuries. She is trying to capitalize on her fame and wealth.

Sanderson filed a lawsuit in 2019 alleging that Paltrow was helped by a Park City ski instructor to "cover up" the accident and that the instructor made a false report to his bosses. It is possible that this will be included in the trial. I also wonder if Paltrow actually got people to lie about the accident. This is not something I can think of - I believe what Paltrow says, and Paltrow seems to be the type of person who would lie about colliding with senior citizens on a ski slope.
Superficial Comment: Gwyneth doesn't have the face to wear these aviator frames. I've worn contacts and glasses for years. I have seen her wearing black, square-shaped glasses. It looks great on her.
